SENIOR PASTOR,
THANN YOUNG

Rev. Thann Young was born in Nash County, North Carolina, where he received his early education.  Rev. Young attended the North Carolina A&T State University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1977 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.

In May of 1977, Rev. Young moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked for the Polaroid Corporation for eleven years.   In 1988, Pastor Young re-located to Maryland in order to attend the Howard University School of Divinity, where he later received a Master of Divinity. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, received the Benjamin E. Mays and the Second Episcopal District Scholarship.  After graduation from the Howard University School of Divinity, Rev. Young served as the Director of the Ward Memorial Family Crisis Center in Northeast Washington, DC.  He also served as Assistant Pastor of Ward AME Church for two years.   In September 1996, Pastor Young founded the Agape AME Church in Olney, Maryland where he served as pastor for sixteen years.  During the sixty-third session of the Washington Annual Conference, Pastor Young was appointed as pastor of Hemingway Temple AME Church in Northwest Washington, DC. Throughout his career, Rev. Young has worked for a number of faith-based organizations in the Washington DC Metropolitan area, which have included Sasha Bruce Youth Inc., Church Association for Community Services, and the Congress of National Black Churches, Inc.

Pastor Young has traveled extensively throughout the United States providing technical assistance to pastors, churches, and community-based organizations in the areas of substance abuse prevention, church arson and terrorism prevention, and community development.  He also serves as board member for the Alliance for Marriage.

Pastor Young is the author of a number of articles and sermons.  Two of the most recent publications include “Marriage, A Divine Institution”, Confession the Faith Publishing Co., and “What Goes Around Comes Around”, African American Devotional Bible”, Zonderman Publish House.

In 1996, Pastor Young founded the Agape A.M.E. Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  He is currently employed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a Manager of the Church Arson Recovery Loan Guarantee Program and the Rural Housing and Economic Development program.  He and his wife, Rev, Margret Farr Youngwho is also a graduate of Howard University School of Divinity, serves as the Assistant Pastor.  They have conducted marriage workshops and seminars throughout the Washington DC. Metropolitan area as well as in Jamaica and Bermuda.  They are the proud parents of two children:  Deidre Nicole Jacas and Jonathann Mark. Three grand children, Joshua Wayne, Ethann Wesley, and Matthew William.
